Employee Wellbeing Programs

When stress, workload and conflict start to show up as absenteeism, turnover and disengagement, it is rarely one person’s problem — it is a signal about the working environment. Thinkahead’s employee wellbeing programs give organisations a psychology-led, ongoing way to understand what is driving that strain, support the people affected, and act on the causes rather than the symptoms.

Whether you are an HR leader who needs a clearer picture of workforce wellbeing, or an executive who wants a staff wellbeing program that stands up to scrutiny, the approach is the same: assess, support, report and prevent. Programs are designed and delivered by registered psychologists with both clinical and organisational experience.

This page covers the ongoing, organisation-wide program. For an overview of our wider workplace services — from psychosocial risk assessment to critical incident support — see Mental Health and Wellbeing Programs.

What an Employee Wellbeing Program Includes

It is worth stressing that an employee wellbeing program is not a box-tick exercise or a single seminar. It is a structured, evidence-based framework that runs across the organisation and brings together:

  • Wellbeing assessment — a confidential wellbeing assessment, tailored to your organisation, to understand the pressures employees face and how they are coping.
  • Time with a psychologist — a safe opportunity to raise concerns, get advice on current work issues and reflect on lifestyle factors that may be affecting someone at work.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) — short-term, solutions-focused counselling funded by the organisation.
  • Trend reporting — quantifiable data on emerging issues and organisational hot spots.
  • Prevention strategy — broad prevention and control strategies that address where stress is coming from.

Assess, Support, Report, Prevent

Each program follows the same broad approach, tailored to the size of your workforce, the risks your people face and your priorities.

  • 1. Understanding your organisation. We consult with key stakeholders about your strategic direction, culture, working environment and the pressures on your people.
  • 2. Assessing wellbeing. A confidential wellbeing assessment, tailored to your organisation, builds a picture of how the workforce as a whole is coping.
  • 3. Supporting individuals. Where concerns surface, employees can speak with a psychologist or be referred into EAP counselling.
  • 4. Reporting on trends. Leaders receive data on themes and emerging issues across the organisation, so decisions rest on evidence rather than anecdote.
  • 5. Building prevention. Findings feed into practical strategies — from workload and role clarity to training where it is most needed — and progress is reviewed at agreed points.

Confidential EAP Counselling

Thinkahead is a provider of Employee Assistance Programs. The service is free and confidential for employees, funded by their organisation, and focused on short-term, solutions-focused counselling. Depending on the agreement in place, employees’ family members can also use the service, and session entitlements commonly range from three to six sessions.

No referral is needed — your organisation arranges access directly, and sessions can happen at your workplace, at our Frenchs Forest or Meadowbank clinics, or by telehealth. Employees who want to know what to expect can read our Information for Patients.

Why Organisations Choose an Ongoing Program

An ongoing program suits organisations that want more than a reactive response once someone is already struggling. It is particularly useful where:

  • workloads are high or teams are working with fewer resources
  • restructures, change or redundancies are under way
  • staff deal with difficult clients, threatening behaviour or traumatic incidents
  • conflict, bullying or performance issues keep resurfacing
  • leaders need reliable information to decide where wellbeing investment should go

Workplace mental health has become a growing focus for many organisations, and a wellbeing program can be one part of a broader approach to looking after people at work.

Thinkahead has worked across the public and private sectors, including government, finance, insurance, legal, pharmaceutical, telecommunications and transport. WorkCover NSW, for example, engaged Thinkahead over a number of years for programs that included resilience and wellbeing. See our Industry Experience.

Shaping Your Program

How a program is set up depends on your workforce — its size, how your teams work and what you want the program to achieve — and we’ll work through the practical options with you.

Pricing options are outlined on Our Corporate Service Fees. Where more targeted help is needed, a program sits comfortably alongside resilience training or psychological services.

The first step is simply a conversation about your workforce and what you would like a program to achieve. Use the form below to arrange a tailored program discussion — there is no need to have the scope worked out beforehand.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an employee wellbeing program?

An employee wellbeing program is an ongoing, organisation-wide approach to understanding and supporting how your people are really coping. At Thinkahead it combines confidential wellbeing assessment, access to psychologists and EAP counselling, and reporting on trends so you can address the causes of workplace stress. Every program is designed and delivered by registered psychologists.

How is a wellbeing program different from wellbeing training?

Training builds skills in a group setting over a set number of sessions. A wellbeing program takes a wider, longer view — it looks at what is happening across the organisation, offers individuals confidential support and reports on emerging issues. Many organisations use the two together, with program data showing where training will make the most difference.

Will we see what employees discuss with a psychologist?

No. When an organisation funds support, what it sees is limited to broad, de-identified themes about how the service is being used. What an employee says in session stays private, with the only exception being a serious risk to someone’s safety. That protection is what gives employees the confidence to use the service.

Can employees’ family members use the EAP?

Yes, depending on the agreement between Thinkahead and your organisation. The agreement also sets how many counselling sessions are available, commonly between three and six. We can talk through the options when scoping your program.

How do we know whether the program is working?

Success measures are agreed with you at the outset — for example wellbeing or retention indicators — and progress is reviewed at points you agree on. Outcomes vary between organisations, which is why the focus is on measurable change in your workforce rather than a generic benchmark.
